Columbia’s Hamilton Hall Seized
Tensions are rising and things are getting weird out there ladies and gentlemen. School protests are escalating fast. Students on Columbia have now taken over a building and are barricading it from authorities. This move comes after the students were suspended for not vacating Pro- Palestine protest area.
Hamilton hall has been seized! Of course, this is not the first time the Hall has been seized. Most notably in 1968 students occupied the Hall to protest the Vietnam War.
And, again in 1985, while protesting apartheid in South Africa, students barricaded themselves inside the Hall. The students demanded Columbia divest from any company which invested or supported apartheid .The students won that round as Columbia did in fact sell all stocks and end all association with any company doing business in S. Africa.
(It must be noted that during the Vietnam protests and S. African protests no single group was singled out like the Jews due to race, country of origin, or religion)
Rep Omar showed up to support Columbia student activists, with her daughter who is an activist: She said,
“All Jewish kids should be kept safe whether they are pro genocide or anti genocide.”
Ms. Omar’s remarks seemed to further polarize an already polarizing issue. “It is abhorrent that a sitting member of Congress would slander an entire group of young people in such a cold, calculated manner,” Jonathan Greenblatt, the executive director of the Anti-Defamation League, said on social media. “This is how people get killed.” (NYT.com)

Campus Democrats support the protests and stand against Biden’s policy on Israel.
“College Democrats of America, the student organization of the Democratic Party, endorsed pro-Palestinian campus protests on Tuesday and called on President Biden to support a permanent cease-fire in Gaza.” NYT
Not to be overlooked, CalPoly Humboldt- yes Humboldt - has forced the campus to close due to protests- as a nice tidbit I almost went to Humboldt. It is a gorgeous campus though, in a magical area. Students have seized the presidents building there and have scrawled such messages as “Free Palestine “ “Pigs Not Allowed”
