Biden losing to China

“Since the start of his administration, President Biden has undertaken a strategy to expand American military access to bases in allied nations across the Asia-Pacific region and to deploy a range of new weapons systems there. He has also said the U.S. military would defend Taiwanagainst a Chinese invasion.” -NYT

Let’s remember out of the $95 billion supplemental defense bill signed by Biden and passed by Congress only $8.1 billion counters China.

Defense Sec Blinken meets with Mr. Xi and other dignitaries this week attempting to cool growing hostilities over Taiwan and trade agreements. The leaders of Japan and the Philippines met Mr Biden at the White House earlier in April.

It has been decided Japan will receive 400 Tomahawk cruise missiles and the Pentagon gained access to four additional bases in the Philippines. The US will also continue to send Green Beret trainers to Taiwan.

Mr. Xi told Mr. Blinken on Friday that the United States should not play a “zero-sum game” or “create small blocs.” He said that “while each side can have its friends and partners, it should not target, oppose or harm the other,” according to an official Chinese summary of the meeting.- (NYTimes)

What does this look like:

However, is this enough? Several conservative critics argue now. America is behind on ship production and we should maintain our own arsenal in the area. How is it we are prioritizing the defense of Ukraine when our own military needs improvement?

“Year after year, prominent defense hawks have said we need to spend much more on defense to uphold this multi-theater national strategy. Today, they emphasize that China is undertaking an historic military buildup and, for instance, has two hundred times our ship-building capacity.” (Time.com)

And yet they allocated $66 billion to Ukraine and only $8.1 to China-  why is American defense not coming before Europes?

At the meeting with Xi, it seems food will take center stage. The Chinese take great pride in the cultural heritage of their cuisine. In a recent visit, Janet Yellen ate mushrooms known for their hallucinogenic effects if prepared improperly although she reported having felt none.

And what’s up with basketball??
